Who Is a Good Candidate for Invisalign®

May 01, 2011 @ 11:14 AM — by admin

If you have teeth that are crooked or slightly uneven, it’s important to consider undergoing some sort of treatment that can help improve the alignment of your smile. In some cases, crooked teeth may make your smile less than appealing, and may even results in speech impediments, problems with eating certain foods, and other inconveniences. Our Memphis cosmetic dentist and the team at the office can help address these issues quite effectively through the use of Invisalign®. Invisalign® is a great option to consider if you’re looking for an effective alternative to metal braces.

The Invisalign® system involves the use of clear plastic aligners rather than brackets and wires. These aligners are custom fitted to your teeth and your unique issues with tooth misalignment. The Invisalign® aligners are worn at all times by the patient except for when the patient is eating or drinking. Every two weeks or so, a new Invisalign® aligner is given to the patient, gradually shifting the patient’s teeth into straighter alignment. The best part about Invisalign® is that it is virtually undetectable by others.

So just who is a good candidate for Memphis Invisalign®? As it turns out, most people who are good candidate for braces are also good candidates for Invisalign®. Ideally, you should be in early adulthood or older. Invisalign® is not a good option for children or young teens. If you have an issue with an underbite or overbite, it cannot be addressed with Invisalign®. You will need a different sort of orthodontic treatment.

In order to learn if Invisalign® is the right treatment for you or if you are best served by another dental care option, it is important that you schedule a consultation with our dental care team. During the consultation, we will be able to evaluate all of your treatment options and help you make the best decision about your dental health.
