DR. TODD GRUEN: We are very fortunate to be practicing dentistry at a time in which we have so many advanced treatment options and some incredible technology that's available to us. When a patient is faced with the difficult decision of how to replace a missing tooth, it can be very confusing, and of course, very stressful.
Dental implants have become the most predictable and most conservative way to replace a missing tooth. Traditionally, the most common way to replace a missing tooth would be to use the natural teeth around that missing space to anchor or support the tooth replacement, but this is not always an ideal option.
I like to describe a dental implant as something like a bionic tooth. It is truly an independent system that does not rely on teeth around the missing space for support. And when a dental implant is placed and restored properly, it can achieve a life like and life long result.
