The Zoom!® Tooth Whitening Procedure

To begin the Zoom!® tooth whitening procedure the patient’s lips and gums will be covered so that only the teeth are exposed. Next, the whitening gel is applied to the teeth and then the area is exposed to a special light. This light activates the whitening gel, helping it to lighten deep stains. Finally, the gel is removed to reveal a brilliantly whiter smile. In addition to the in-office procedure, we send our patient home with at-home whitening trays at no additional cost so that they can maintain the results for years to come.

At-home Tooth Whitening Trays

We also offer custom-made trays for the convenience of tooth whitening at home. The patient will wear the tray filled with tooth whitening gel for a few hours during the day or overnight for about two weeks until the teeth are lightened to the desired shade. To make the tooth whitening trays, patients will visit Germantown Dental Group to have a mold of their teeth taken. This mold is used to make a mouth guard to serve as the tray to hold the gel in place, keeping it on the teeth while protecting the gums and lips. At-home tooth whitening offers a convenient way for our patients from throughout the Memphis, Tennessee area to safely whiten their teeth several shades.

Contrary to what you may have heard, even tetracycline staining CAN be lightened dramatically with our whitening treatments. Watch Stephanie’s video testimonial to learn how she whitened her dark tetracycline stained teeth to get a smile of which she is proud.

In-office tooth whitening and at-home tooth whitening, in conjunction with an ongoing dental hygiene regime, can give you a brighter smile for years to come. Schedule a tooth whitening consultation at Germantown Dental Group to find out which option is right for you.

Teeth Whitening Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the difference between over-the-counter whitening products and professional teeth whitening treatments?

While over-the-counter whitening products can improve the appearance of the teeth, these products tend to be less powerful than their professional-grade counterparts. Over-the-counter products that are labeled as “whitening” agents may simply remove debris from the surface of the teeth. “Bleaching” products must contain an active whitening agent such as hydrogen peroxide, though professional teeth whitening products typically have a higher concentration of these bleaching agents and can therefore achieve a brighter shade of white. Finally, professional whitening treatments are performed under the supervision of an experienced dentist who can help you choose the treatment that is right for your unique needs.

Am I a good candidate for teeth whitening?

Most patients are good candidates for teeth whitening. However, patients with poor oral hygiene, tooth decay, or gum disease may need to address these concerns prior to the whitening treatment. Patients with moderate stains or discoloration often benefit greatly from professional teeth whitening. Some patients with severe staining or teeth that suffer from additional cosmetic concerns may be better suited for porcelain veneers. During the consultation process, our dentist can recommend which treatment can best meet your expectations.

Can teeth whitening treatments brighten the shade of crowns, porcelain veneers, or fillings?

Dental crowns, porcelain veneers, and other tooth restoration materials are generally unaffected by teeth whitening products. Our dentist can design a customized treatment plan that can best address your cosmetic concerns while considering your pre-existing dental work.

Does teeth whitening damage tooth enamel?

Professional whitening treatments are designed to be as safe and effective as possible. These treatments typically do not permanently damage tooth enamel, though patients often experience sensitivity during treatment. Fluoride treatments can also be used to enhance tooth protection.

Is tooth sensitivity permanent after whitening treatments?

Though most patients will likely experience some degree of tooth sensitivity during treatment as well as a few days afterward, this side effect is only temporary. The sensitivity of the teeth should return to normal within one to three days after the treatment is complete.

How much does teeth whitening cost?

The price of teeth whitening varies depending upon which treatment method you choose: Zoom!® teeth whitening or at-home custom-made trays. On average, the cost of professional teeth whitening ranges from $395 to $595. Once any kind of whitening services are provided, we offer additional gel for touch-ups at our wholesale cost anytime you need it in the future. During your one-on-one consultation, our dentist will examine the level of discoloration, discuss your goals, and recommend a whitening option that can best meet your needs. After designing a customized whitening plan, a member of our team can give you a quote for the total cost of the treatment. We offer a number of payment options and work with reputable dental financing companies that can help make the cost of teeth whitening as affordable and convenient as possible.
