How Does Invisalign® Work?
The treatment process for Invisalign® clear teeth aligners (often referred to as “clear braces”), is one of the procedure’s major benefits. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign® does not rely on metal brackets and wires to correct common orthodontic concerns such as teeth misalignment and bite issues. In fact, Invisalign®’s system of plastic aligners are virtually undetectable while in use and are known for offering comfortable and relatively quick results.
The custom-designed, removable Invisalign® teeth aligners are created based on a dental impression taken here at our office. Once they are produced, a series of aligner trays will be given to you to take home. Each set of plastic aligners is slightly different from the one that comes before it, taking into account the current position of your teeth and the modifications necessary to gradually move them to a more desirable position. You will wear one set for approximately one week, then move on to the next tray in the series. You should wear the aligners as much as possible throughout the day (at least 22 hours); however, you can take them out while eating, drinking, and performing your daily oral hygiene routines. It’s very important to follow the instructions provided by our dentist to the letter since adherence to the Invisalign® treatment process is crucial to achieving the best possible results.
Most patients experience optimal Invisalign® outcomes after about five months to a year. For some individuals, the best results can be apparent even sooner than that; however, each patient has unique needs, so the total treatment time varies. When you come in for your initial consultation, our dentist will answer all of your questions and talk with you about what you can expect.
Invisalign® has helped people all over the world address a variety of orthodontic concerns in a less time-consuming (and less noticeable) manner. If you are considering this procedure, or other orthodontic options, such as Six Month Smiles®, we encourage you to contact Germantown Dental Group with any questions you may have, or to schedule a consultation.
